I am spending this week and next to get my life together and prepare for my bike trip across the country. Going to be honest here, I am a little nervous about it, and am not sure I will actually make it all the way to New York, but I’m going to try. I am riding with Ale Moss, which I am very happy about. She has been my best friend for the last 5 years and I couldn’t think of anyone I would rather go on this trip with. Since this is quite a large bike ride we are attempting, Ale and I have decided to do some training this week to prepare.
-going on rides all around Los Gatos and neighboring cities
-talking to anyone we could find who has done a touring trip across America (huge shout out to Mike Dillon, who went way way way above and beyond the expectations of replying to my email asking for some tips).
-eating incredibly large quantities of food to prepare for when we are actually burning a lot of calories. This step has really been difficult but somehow we have managed with the help of Justin’s Maple Almond Butter and ice cream 🙂
-getting scared to death by my dad hiding behind the recycling bins after coming home late. (he explained he was just preparing us for the real world, where this happens all the time.) thanks padre
-living at REI and making friends with all the biking equipment staff there
-heavy hours of online shopping to get lowest prices on all the gear
-cutting up a cat can to make an ethanol burning stove, so we could practice boiling water
-studying a map of the US (and our route) so when people asked us about certain states we might be traveling through we give the same answer
