After a relaxing day of watching the Olympic trials and blogging and emailing and ordering in food and not leaving Camille’s couch / bed, Ale and I departed SF with my dad and headed to Petaluma.
Side note: huge shout out to Camille and Bush who let us lounge around their place all day. It was exactly what we both needed. The brief time we left the apartment (to bike to REI to find more gear) we both were so exhausted and frustrated by city traffic, we decided we wouldn’t leave the couch once we got home. haha yay for 3,000 + more miles…
Anyways, this morning my dad came up to the city to meet Ale and me and we took off. The hills on the way out of SF were a nice little wake up. I was also wearing the gopro on a chest strap, so watching the video later I could tell how tired I was by how much the camera was moving. It was moving a lot.
The ride was extremely enjoyable the first couple hours. We had lunch in San Anselmo and went to my grandparent’s house to fill up with ice water and then continued on our way. My dad’s exact words, “ok so we just have three hills then we are home free to Petaluma.” This is coming from the man that grew up around here and knows the area.
Three hours later my sweaty, out-of-breath dad goes, “mmkay, so maybe it’s more like 6.7 hills.” The first one, White’s Hill, was pretty insane. I seriously struggled up that guy. I am so happy I had my music. I just listened to hard core inspirational songs (dixie chicks) and pretended I was in that commercial for the 2012 Olympics. The down hill was worth it though. I am not sure if I was crying of happiness on the way down or if the intense wind-to-the-eyeball sensation was the cause of the tears. Either way, total elation. I loved it.
We faced a pretty strong head wind along the next long stretch, but luckily we had my dad to draft off of. Thanks padre!
After riding over hill 6.7 we arrived in Petaluma at the wonderful home of my aunt and uncle, Laurie and Dave. They made us an amazing dinner and one of Laurie’s famous desserts. O and showed us their chickens 🙂
meanwhile, this guy is sleeping through it all
